Created Issue: Unkown Error when editing a custom Template "Alert Details XSL Transformation" [8776]

Hi,

I tried to edit a custom Alert Template "Alert Details XSL Transformation" in the Central Administration. However I received an "Unknown Error" when loading the page.

I deployed the 1 month test version on my server. Does anyone have the same issue wwith the XSLT Template?

After deploying when I try and browe I get the following error message, any ideas on why would be appreciated

Hi,

I have SharePoint 2007 and WSS3.0, I downloaded the SPAlertManager folder and copied to c:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\12\template\layouts directory based on the instruction. Then browse the file from the sharepoint site. But I got the error message”Troubleshoot issues with Windows SharePoint Services”, any idea?

COMMENTED ISSUE: Error in Alerts()

I am running WSS 3.0. I installed the app in the LAYOUTS directory. It seems like the Alerts class doesn't exist at runtime however in Visual Studio, it is recognized (intellisense) and compiles without any issues. I also noticed in the WSS 3.0 SDK documentation that this class is not listed under Microsoft.SharePoint namespace.

Here is the message in the browser when I try to run the app...

c:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\12\TEMPLATE\LAYOUTS\SPAlertManager\ListOptions.ascx.cs(42): error CS0246: The type or namespace name 'Alerts' could not be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?) at System.Web.Compilation.AssemblyBuilder.Compile()

Line 42 is the first place the Alerts class is instantiated...

I haven't had the opportunity to test this under a WSS installation without MOSS, however the Alerts class is refering to the Alerts.cs class in the app_code folder of the project. <ake sure that the SPAlertManager folder in _layouts is marked as an application so that it's web.config is recognized and run, this would have signifcance in where the runtime looks for a class that would be in app_code.

Perhaps there is some configuration necessary on you system to resolve this, I can't think of why that would be though, other than what I've noted. You may want to ensure that in Visual Studio the Alerts.cs is appearing in the App_Code folder, if it is not this may be the culprit.

Project Description
This is a proof of concept project dealing with Site Alerts in SharePoint Server 2007 (Should work fine in WSS v3 too). The project allows users to manage alerts across sites (in a single site collection) and subscribe/unsubscribe to a site (automatically signing them up for an alert on each unhidden list they have access to in a site). The code is written as an application pages application (layouts directory), and currently creates Daily Alerts for All Events.
